Regional Head Candidates Invited to Compete on Ideas for Covid-19 Transmission

The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian invites the regional heads candidate of 11 regencies in Papua Province to take part in the Local Leaders Election simultaneously, to make the momentum of the elections to collide with the idea of suppressing the Covid-19 transmission.

Among them by distributing masks and hand sanitizers massively to the voters to attract voting support.

"The point of the elections momentum is not as a contagion media but instead pressed Covid-19 because there is a movement to distribute masks and hand sanitizers to voters.”

"So we believe this movement can reduce the transmission curve of Coronavirus in Papua," explained The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito in a press conference, after attending the Local Leaders Election Readiness Coordination meeting 2020, Friday (10/7/2020), in Jayapura.

Tito hopes that by making the Covid-19 countermeasure the main issue, the issue of primordialism (excessive tribalism), violence, religion and others, is expected to be abandoned.

Thus, all local election contestants can be equally with the Government to suppress the rate of spread of coronavirus.

"For example, if the local government in handling the Covid-19 is less than the maximum can be a ' weapon ' for the candidate of the head of other regional attack. So that the incumbent then became more fervent with all its resources, hitting the spread of Covid-19 ".

"The point we want with the elections in addition can help suppress the rate of Covid-19, but can encourage economic stimulation, because there is money in circulation. From the Local government budget:, the state budget but also of the contestants who will be issuing fees for witnesses and campaigns. And this is certainly a very good economic recovery area, "he concluded.

It is known, 11 regencies in Papua held simultaneous elections, namely Keerom, Supiori, Waropen, Mamberamo Raya, Bintang Mountains, Yahukimo, Yalimo, Merauke, Boven Digoel, Asmat and Nabire.
