KPU Papua : Hopefully, Incidents Will Not Hinder the Regional Election in Yahukimo

The Papua Provincial Electoral Commission (KPU) confirmed the stage of elections in Yahukimo Regency, interrupted by a recent bloody incident.

Nevertheless, Chairman of KPU Papua Theo Kossay hopes that a number of incidents will not hinder the implementation of Yahukimo Elections.

"Because there are many assumptions that three bloody incidents in Yahukimo can make the stage of the election cannot run. But this is a national agenda so it has to be implemented".

"The point is that we hope that the elections in Yahukimo will not be hampered by security factors," explained Theo in Jayapura, Thursday (August 27, 2020).

In total there have been three violent incidents in Yahukimo that occurred in August. Three people died in the incident, one of them is staff of KPUD in Yahukimo

Even so, Theo made sure the local KPUD has now begun preparing for the registration phase of the candidate's spouse. KPU Papua has also requested security guarantees from the Papua Police, so that all these stages can run.

"Surely if there is a guarantee of peace, KPUD will continue. We also coordinated with the Papua Police yesterday. As a result, the Papua Police stated that it is ready to ensure security in Yahukimo. That's why all Commissioners, staff including the local KPUD building will get a strict escort from the police," he said.
