Three Papuan Consumer Price Index Cities Getting Deflation

Papua's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded three CPI cities in the world, deflation of 0.22 percent or a decrease in the Consumer Price Index from 104.86 in August 2020 to 104.64 in September 2020.

According to Head of BPS Papua Adriana Robaha, deflation occurred in a combination of 3 CPI cities in the eastern province of Indonesia, due to a decrease in index figures in a number of food, beverage, and tobacco groups.

While detailed according to the time series, the combined 3 CPI cities in Papua recorded a monthly inflation rate of -0.22 percent in September 2020. September 2019 monthly inflation was -1.19 percent and September 2018 monthly inflation was 0.08 percent.

Meanwhile, specifically for the development of food group inflation (COICOP 1999), Merauke has got inflation of 0.43 percent or a rise in the Consumer Price Index from 98.57 in August 2020 to 98.99 in September 2020.

"The general inflation rate in the city is 0.10 percent," he said.

As for Timika, he continued, the grocery group experienced deflation of 2.24 percent or a decrease in the consumer price index from 117.84 in August 2020 to 115.20 in September 2020.

"The general inflation rate in the city is -0.83 percent," he said.

Meanwhile, in Jayapura, the food group experienced deflation of 0.43 percent or a decrease in the consumer price index from 102.42 in August 2020 to 101.98 in September 2020.

"The general inflation rate in the city is -0.11 percent."

"And the combination of the three CPI cities shows that the food group was in deflation of 0.92 percent or a decrease in the Consumer Price Index from 106.57 in August 2020 to 105.58 in September 2020. The food group's contribution to inflation in general is -0.25 percent," he said.
