BPS Papua: Sea Transport Decreased 69.26 Percent in August 2020

The Province of Papua is still implementing a new normal adaptation order in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Thus, the number of passengers departing and arriving in August is calculated less than last July.

This is because there was a build-up of passengers last July, where they were unable to depart between March and June.

"For August, there are restrictions on passengers going up so that the number of passengers who board is smaller than the previous month".

"Thus, the number of passengers departing using domestic sea transportation in August 2020 was recorded as 2,385 people or decreased by 69.26 percent compared to July 2020 which was 7,758 people," explained the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Papua Adriana Robaha, in Jayapura, Friday.

Meanwhile, the number of passengers arriving using domestic sea transportation in August 2020 recorded 1,446 people which also decreased by 61.92 percent compared to July 2020 as many as 3,797 people.

"There are 571 people who came to Jayapura Port. Meanwhile, the number of passengers arriving at Merauke Port in August 2020 was recorded as many as 875 people," he said.

Meanwhile, compared to January-August 2019, he added, the flow of passenger debarkation in the period January-August 2020 decreased by 51.92 percent to 58,927 people.

"At Jayapura Port, the cumulative number of debarkation decreased by 50.49 percent from 103,755 people in January-August 2019 to 51,374 people in January-August 2020".

"As well as at Merauke Port, the cumulative number of debarkation decreased by 59.82 percent to 7,553 people in January-August 2020 from 18,800 in January-August 2019," he said.
