The population of Papuan reach 4.30 Million
Papua's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data on the population of 4.30 million people in Papua. This number is obtained from the results of the Population Census in September 2020 (SP2020).
Head of the Central Statistics Agency of Papua, Adriana Helena Carolina explained that the population of Papua has increased by about 1.47 million people in the ten years since 2010.
Meanwhile, in the same period, Papua's population growth rate was 4.13 percent per year.
"It does look like there is a slowdown in the rate of population growth of 1.26 percentage points when compared to the rate of population growth in the period 2000-2010 of 5.39 percent".
"Nevertheless, the growth rate of Papuan population in this period is higher when compared to Indonesia's population growth rate of 1.25 percent," Adriana said in Jayapura on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, of Papua's 4.30 million people, 92.83 percent or about 3.99 million people live according to identity cards. Meanwhile, the remaining 7.17 percent or about 308 thousand other residents domiciled are not in accordance with identity cards.
This number is an indication that residents who migrated from the previous residential area and now do not live at the address listed on the identity card is quite a lot.
The result of SP2020, he continued, noted that the majority of Papuans are dominated by Millennial and Generation Z.
"The proportion of Millennial is 32.09 percent or about 1.37 million and Generation Z is 30.38 percent of Papua's total population or about 1.30 million. But from a demographic point of view, all Millennial are a population that is in the productive age group".
"Meanwhile, Generation Z consists of an unproductive and productive age population. In about 7 years, Generation Z will reach productive age. This is an opportunity and challenge both now and in the future, considering this generation has the potential to be a development actor for the future of Papua Province," he said.
