The Local House of Representatives: Six Districts Asked to Hold Plenary Dismissal of Regional Head

The tenure of Regents and Vice Regents in six regencies in Papua Province is confirmed to end on February 17, 2021.

The six districts are Keerom, Pegunungan Bintang, Boven Digoel, Merauke, Nabire, Asmat.

Responding to this, Acting Secretary of Papua Doren Wakerkwa asked the local House of Representatives (DPRD), to immediately conduct a plenary session proposing the dismissal of heads and deputy heads of regions in the region.

"Now the process of elections again is in the Court. So, for the position of regional head that will end, it must be immediately proposed dismissal while waiting for the determination of the new regent and deputy regent," Doren told reporters in Jayapura, Wednesday (3/2/2021).

As for filling the vacancies of heads of government in the six districts, Doren made sure to immediately appoint Caretaker Regent.

The official, tasked with overseeing the implementation of the government up to the head and deputy head of the new region appointed by the local Election Commission (KPU).

"For sure we immediately send the Caretaker Regent to these six districts. Later, Caretaker will serve until the election process is completed in the Constitutional Court and the appointment of new regents and vice regents in the 6 districts," he said.

Doren on the occasion, urged all State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in the six districts not to be affected by the implementation of the regional elections that are temporarily taking place.

He hopes that as a servant of the state, ASN still prioritizes service to the community, neutral and political.
