The Papua Provincial Government immediately encouraged the vaccination of all athletes, who will compete in National Sports Week XX 2021, as instructed by Central KONI.

This affirmation was conveyed by Regional Secretary Dance Yulian Flassy to the press, after meeting the Heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations in the Provincial Government, Monday (3/22/2021) evening.

"There are thousands of athletes who have not been vaccinated. This is what we will encourage (in Papua) because of a requirement to be able to participate in National Sports Week. Even society is mandatory," he explained.

The Regional Secretary said that in the not too long time, he will invite the National Sports Week Committee and KONI Papua to synergize related to the implementation of vaccinations.

The meeting also discussed preparations for the implementation of National Sports Week which will still be held on 2 to 15 October 2021, as affirmed by President Jokowi.

"The point is, 1 or 2 months before National Sports Week, Papuan athletes already have to be vaccinated. It also includes officials and the community around the venue. Similarly, we will be selective so that the athletes and officials who will come to Papua must have been vaccinated," he concluded.

Previously, from the results of the meeting of the National Sports Week Committee of Papua with Central KONI in Jakarta some time ago, all participants of National Sports Week XX 2021 must follow the COVID-19 vaccines, before coming to Papua.

According to the Vice Chairman of Central KONI who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees National Sports Week XX Papua, Suwarno, not only athletes and officials from each province, the organizing committee and the community around the venue must also get the COVID-19 vaccines.

This is so that the implementation of National Sports Week on 2 to 15 October 2021 will not become a new cluster of COVID-19 transmission.

Suwarno also asked all KONI of each province, coordinating with the local government so that both athletes and officials can be immediately vaccinated.

The implementation of National Sports Week XX is getting closer so that in the rest of the current time, it can be utilized to complement things that are lacking.
