President Asks Papua to Speed Vaccinations to Prepare National Sports Week and National Paralympic Week

President Joko Widodo has asked the Papuan Provincial Government to speed up the vaccination process, in order to prevent the transmission of coronavirus in the four clusters that host National Sports Week (PON) and National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) 2021.

This is as conveyed by the President in a limited meeting with the ministries of institutions and the ranks of the Papua Provincial Government, National Sports Week and National Paralympic Week Committee of Papua, in a virtual meeting, Tuesday (07/13/2021).

"The President also said that vaccination in Papua can run fast so that the coverage increases," Papuan Governor Spokesman, Muhammad Rifai Darus told the press after the meeting.

Jokowi will soon issue regulations on the implementation of PON and Peparnas with or without spectators. The regulation will consider the number of cases of COVID-19 transmission is increasing sharply throughout Indonesia, not least the Papua Province.

Similarly, the Chairman of PON Committee, Yunus Wonda. According to him, President Jokowi is strong-willed so that all citizens around the venue area, already vaccinated.

"The President's directive said that people who want to watch the opening to the closing must be vaccinated. Because, he also wants all people to watch PON and Peparnas events," said Wonda.

Meanwhile, Daily Chairman of Peparnas, Doren Wakerkwa confirmed that the implementation of PON and Peparnas will be with or without spectators, will be decided by the President in September 2021

"Therefore let's pray for that, the number of Covid-19 cases has decreased," he hoped.
