Papua Asked to Implement KIP Law Consistently

Local governments in Papua Province are required to implement Law 14 of 2008 on Public Information Disclosure consistently. Thus, the community can have adequate information, so that they can participate in the development process.

"Because with the widest open information for the community, they automatically participate in the work program that has been launched by the government," said the Head of Research and Documentation of Central KI , Romanus Ndau Lendong in Jayapura, Monday (9/28/2020), in Jayapura.

He said that with the public information disclosure law, the public has a right to get information. That is, local governments through public bodies have a responsibility to ensure the openness of information to the public.

"At the government level, some of them think why it is necessary to disclose information. This mindset must be changed."

"Because the right to information in the law is very clear, which is a constitutional right. That is, if the state does not serve the information means it violates the constitution. That's why our local government has a commitment to make Indonesia move forward by educating the public through information," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Papua Provincial Information Commission, Wilhelmus Pigai committed to encourage local governments ranging from provinces, districts, cities and villages to give information, both regarding budget management to work programs that have been previously announced.

"That's why we want to encourage the establishment of specific local regulations on information".

"We will also continue to build communication with citizen in Papua, because the law has guaranteed the public to know," he said
