Papua Encourages New Legal Products to Support National Sports Week

Despite the issuance of two Presidential Instructions (Inpres) to support the preparation of the National Sports Week XX 2021 in Papua, the local government is still encouraging the presence of a new legal product to support the implementation of the four-yearly event.

This was confirmed by the Head of Sports and Youth Department of Papua, Alex Kapisa, on Monday (4/20/2021), in Jayapura.

According to him, in the two Presidential Decrees that have been published, there is no affirmation of the format of organizing National Sports Week in the current COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it felt the need to initiate a new legal product, so that there is support (funding) from the center for the implementation of National Sports Week during the pandemic.

"That's why yesterday we have been coordinating with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Ministry of State Secretariat and the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture as the leading sector".

"So with this new Presidential Instruction, there will be an affirmation of budget support from the central government to Papua, especially during this pandemic," he hoped.

While another important point of the new Presidential Instruction, continued Alex, in the latest draft of the Presidential Decree that is temporarily proposed, will apply for the cost of maintenance and of National Sports Week venues.

"So it doesn’t matter when the government budget is used for the maintenance of National Sports Week venues".

"Because of the cost of maintenance of this venue every year we get from the regional budget, because after the state-owned assets are used in National Sports Week, once handed over to the local government, the maintenance becomes our responsibility. And the funds can already be budgeted in the regional budget,"he said.

Previously, the National Sports Week Committee of Papua has proposed a budget of IDR 1.6 trillion to the central government to prepare for the implementation of the national agenda, October 2021.

The budget submission to the center is because the Papua Provincial Government no longer provides budget support from the regional budget to the National Sports Week Committee of Papua, because it previously raised IDR 2 trillion for the construction of venues and others.
