The Board of the All-Indonesia Diving Sports Association (POSSI) of Papua Province again selected athletes who will descend on the fin-swimming sea number and OBA (underwater orientation).

According to Chairman of POSSI Papua, Gilbert Yakwart, the re-selection aims to determine potential athletes who will go down in the upcoming National Sports Week XX.

On the other hand, there is a demand to place a list of athletes according to the category by name and number set.

"By this selection, there are some athletes that we have to degrade. But those who are relegated will compete in the Diving National Championship," he said.

Gilbert ensured POSSI Papua remained on the initial target of winning five gold medals in the upcoming National Sports Week XX 2021.

Nevertheless, he said it was impossible for the diving sport to increase the gold medal, beyond the previously set target.

When referring to the development of athletes who in the last few weeks showed improved progress.

Meanwhile, Daily Chairman of POSSI Papua Imam Djuniawal asked the local KONI to be able to return to Papua diving athletes who conducted training centers outside Papua.

Because it is feared, the training schedule of those outside Papua is constrained by Activity Restrictions policy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our athletes are in Jayapura, Jakarta and Bogor. Well for these athletes in Jakarta we want to change the strategy by returning to Jayapura, because the swimming pool in Jakarta is closed".

"It means that if Activity Restrictions last until July 20, 2021 and then extend, it could be that they cannot practice until the next 3 weeks. Therefore, we hope KONI can help our athletes who are outside Papua," he concluded.
