Borders Still Closed, People Asked to Be Patient

The Papua Provincial Government ensures that the border lines between countries will still be closed after the issuance of Community Activity Restrictions Implementation levels 4, 3 and 2 in a number of regions.

Especially for Jayapura area that will hold National Sports Week, then applied Level 4 Community Activity Restrictions, where border access that is planned to be opened specifically for goods services, finally has to be closed.

In response, the Head of the Travel and Foreign Cooperation Bureau of Papua Province, Suzana Wanggai asked the public to be patient. Because the current condition of COVID-19 transmission in Papua is still quite high.

"Entering the middle of 2021, we think that formal lines in the border region will soon be opened specifically for the service of delivery of goods both from Indonesia to PNG".

"However, with the current conditions, access to goods is also not open, because we see the number of cases is still very high. That's why we hope that all people in the border area can be patient," he explained in Jayapura Friday.

She said that the provincial government will still look for solutions to revive the economy in the border region in the high cases of COVID-19 .

Nevertheless, he hopes that all parties do not make decisions that can violate the rules given the current high cases of COVID transmission.

"Moreover, we will hold National Sports Week in September-August 2021. So we hope all parties can wait until pandemic conditions can be controlled," she concluded.
