Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Papua Encourages Sago Industry for Export
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) of Papua Province together with the local government encourages industrial development for the purposes of sago exports from Papua.
The program is based on the potential of Papua sago land which reaches 4.7 million hectares and is the largest in the world today.
"For this reason, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Papua conducted a meeting with the Papua Agriculture, Food Crops and Horticulture Department which discussed the potential of Papuan Sago in Papua for export," said head of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Papua, Ronald Antonio in Jayapura, Thursday (08/19/20210).
According to him, in addition to exports, the potential of Papua Sago in the future can be developed into food estate or food security. Thus, Papua in the future will no longer depend on other regions for food security issues.
Thus, the role of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Papua is to encourage the management of Sago starting from upstream to downstream. So that way, it is expected that there is connectivity between entrepreneurs and investors.
"So here we will take from local entrepreneurs and find investors. So, our role is more to connect between local entrepreneurs and investors, later the relevant agencies that prepare local entrepreneurs, "he said.
Head of Plantation, Agriculture, Food Crops and Horticulture Department, Karel Yarangga appreciated the initiative of the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He also gave full support to the program. Where one of them by having conveyed a number of information needed, related to the future Sago management plan.
"By data, Sago land in Indonesia is 5.6 million hectares. While 5.2 million hectares are in Papua and West Papua. That's what we haven't managed well," he said.
It is known, there are currently two areas that will be the focus of Sago development, namely Jayapura Regency and Jayapura City. The potential of Sago in these two areas is quite large and easier to manage.
