Papua Marine and Fisheries Department Discusses PPI Managed by Third Parties

JAYAPURA – Papua Marine and Fisheries Department encourages the management of Fishing Ports or Fish Landing Bases (PPI), taken over by third parties, to maximize revenue for local governments.

According to the Acting Head of the Papua Marine and Fisheries Department (DKP), Iman Djuniawal, managed by a third party, all PPI operational costs are no longer charged to the local government.

"That is, all damage and risk of treatment of PPI facilities is now the responsibility of third parties"

“Maybe the local government gets a little, but we don't take the risk of damage to maintenance. On the contrary, there is continuous income that becomes Regional Income for the local government," Iman explained in Jayapura, Tuesday (08/24/2021).

Still according to Iman, currently a number of PPI in various regions in Indonesia have begun to be managed by third parties. Like PPI Bungus, in West Sumatra managed by third parties, the value of regional income donations is quite large.

"Imagine the PPI in Bungus, the office is only small, staff limited but close to the exit. Visitors can leave after paying the rental fee at the PPI office".

"What is paid? Basket rental fees, cool storage rentals, land rentals, parking rentals and all of these are managed by third parties. Imagine this if it happened in all PPI in Papua. "The pad is very big," he said.

Even so, this can only be realized if there is support from related agencies and all district and city governments that have PPI.

"It means that they first submit their PPI to us as mandated by the Law. After that, we both make the Regulation and then encourage third parties to manage."

"I don't think it's difficult to do if we all have the same commitment as us."
